We Love Writing Letters!
Pen Pals is a volunteer-led program where kids and volunteers visit various downtown hotspots and spend approximately an hour writing letters to everyone from their cousin in Florida to the Prime Minister in Ottawa.
This hour and a half increases not only our children’s love for literacy but also brings their penmanship to new and extraordinary heights!
Currently, Pen Pals is held on Zoom, outings are postponed until further notice.

What do I write about?Here is a guide for what to write. We encourage all of our letter writers to ask lots of questions, to introduce yourself in your letter, and to put love and effort into your writing! A letter written with love and admiration, is a letter that will be cherished and remembered by your recipient.

Where do I send my letter?
For confidentiality reasons, WBYO does not give out personal addresses of letter recipients. Alternatively, we encourage writers, writing to unknown addresses to send their letters to us, and if the recipient lives in the city, they can pick up their letter from the center.
If you know the address of your recipient, please feel free to use your free postage stamp and envelope from WBYO to mail your letter directly to them.

What do I do if I receive a letter?
We encourage you to write back if you receive a letter! If your letter is at the center, we encourage you to call us to book an appointment to pick up your letter so you can write back. There will be a lot of questions for you to answer, and we encourage you to also ask questions back! If you have any questions about how to properly respond, please call us or send a quick email.
Do I need to purchase my own postage?
We at WBYO have stamps and envelopes at the center for you. If you would like to pick up any tools for pen pals, please email us so we can set up an appointment for you to pick them up.
