Bookjam, Bookworms,
& Movie Book Club Night
We do reading right at WBYO!
When you read, it pays off. We currently have three reading programs: Movie Book Club, Bookworms and Book Jam.
At Movie Book Club, when a book becomes a movie (like Harry Potter, Divergence, or Beauty and the Beast), if you read the book we will take you out for dinner and the movie! We lend kids books or an e-reader from our Upcoming Attractions list for one week. Just read the book and fill out a book report!
For Bookworms, when you read a book to our volunteers or staff, we keep track. You can read a picture book to a volunteer, or fill out a book report for a novel (below) and return it to us. When you've read 10 books you get to come on a fabulous WBYO outing! When you get to 100, you get a fabulous prize that will blow your mind!
Join us for Book Jam on Friday evenings. Dedicated volunteers will guide early readers through books and games geared to improve kids' literacy skills. All books read during Book Jam count towards your bookworms count and can win you prizes!

Bookworms
Bookworms is a literacy program. Kids come by after school and read independently or with staff and volunteers. They may also play with any of the toys, games or computers we have in our space! We log every book children read, and for every 10 books they get to attend a Bookworms outing, past outings include the zoo, movie and more.
See "Bookworms Sign-Up" or press the button below for a list of available bookworms slots. If you would like to book a bookworms slot, please email us at [email protected] or call (204) 774-0451 to reserve your spot.
There are two ways to be involved in Bookworms:
1. For early readers, you can read books to us, and have us assist you with your pronunciation
2. Read a novel on your own time, and come to bookworms to be tested on your knowledge of the book, then submit a book report to our email: [email protected]

Movie Book Club Night
Welcome to Movie book Club! Where we read books and then reward ourselves with movies! To join the club, you must read a book associated with one of the movies, and then join us in bookworms to discuss the book you read. After bookworms, you will be required to submit a Novel Study to us via email. You can find the novel study guidelines above.
All novel studies must be submitted on the Wednesday prior to the movie date.

Bookjam
Bookjam is an exciting literacy program for youth looking to increase their reading skills through games, crafts, cooking etc. in a fun, safe environment at our centre. Volunteers can never get enough stories, so they are here waiting for the next kid to read to them from our constantly updated library. Pretend to be a spy and find clues to solve a mystery! Make cupcakes by following a recipe! Or take an imaginary trip to Neverland with Peter Pan as your guide! Parents (as always!) are encouraged to join in!
Currently, this program is running on Zoom until further notice. This change has not compromised the fun-loving, academic environment that Bookjam is known for! Thank you for your patience and understanding through these unprecedented times.
